Sunstroke - heatstroke is a disease that occurs due to prolonged exposure to high-temperature environments when the body has not yet adapted, leading to sweating, dehydration, electrolytes, and system damage to central nervous system temperature control (regulating body temperature).

Today, let's learn about the levels of common sunstroke and heatstroke with Pocari so that you can protect yourself and everyone around you if you get it!

Heat syncope

Blood pressure decreases due to the dilation of the blood vessels in the skin, resulting in decreased flow of blood to the brain. The person's pulse quickens and weakens. Characteristics: Dizziness, fainting, facial pallor, quickening, and weakening of the pulse.

Heat cramps

Cramps accompanied by pain in the legs, arms, and abdomen occur when the concentration of salt (sodium) in the blood decreases due to heavy sweating, with fluid replaced by water only. Characteristics: Muscle pain, cramps, muscle convulsions.

Heat exhaustion

A person suffering heat exhaustion will sweat profusely. If rehydration is inadequate, the person will become dehydrated, and exhibit symptoms of heat exhaustion. Characteristics: General feeling of malaise, nausea/vomiting, headache, decreased ability to concentrate or make decisions.

Heatstroke

Heatstroke is a condition in which core bodily functions are impaired due to an excessively high body temperature. Heatstroke may result in impairment of consciousness (slow reactions, unusual speech, and behavior, loss of consciousness), and going into a state of shock.

Characteristics: High body temperature, disturbance of consciousness, slow reaction to calls and stimuli, unusual speech and behavior, wobbly

So when you have a sunstroke - heatstroke, what should you do? Please note the following steps to timely take first aid measures for people suffering from sunstroke - heat stroke.

  1. Confirm the symptoms

Appropriate measures should be taken when heatstroke is suspected. If the person is unconscious or shows impaired consciousness it is important to call an ambulance immediately. Emergency measures must be taken to cool the person while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

  1. On-site emergency measures

Move the person to a shaded place with good air circulation or to an air-conditioned room.

Cool the person's body by:

  • Remove or loosen tight clothing to let heat escape.
  • Dampen exposed skin with cold water and use a paper or electric fan to cool the body.
  • If ice packs are available, use them to cool areas with large blood vessels near the surface of the skin, such as the neck, under the arms, and the groin area.
  1. Rehydrate with ion supply drink

If the patient is conscious, give them a chilled drink containing 40mg - 80mg salt per 100ml or oral rehydration solution to replenish the ions lost through sweat.

So when sunstroke - heatstroke, you can give the patient the ion supply drink Pocari Sweat to promptly and accurately compensate for the amount of water and ions needed for the body. POCARI has a composition equivalent to the amount of body fluid lost and is absorbed into the body 2.2 times faster than water, helping to promote blood circulation and help restore the body's best status.

If the person does not respond to stimuli or shows signs of impaired consciousness, do not force them to drink, as fluid could enter the respiratory tract. If the person is nauseous or vomiting, fluids should be given intravenously at a medical facility.
